ELECTRONICALLY MONITORS A BABY'S BREATHING The LITTLE SENTRY junior monitors the breathing movements of a baby by means of an under-the-mattress sensor. These movements are indicated on the monitor by means of a green flashing light and an audible tick (the volume of which is adjustable). There is absolutely no contact with the babies' skin, avoiding the possibilities of any skin irritations. |
| Should the breathing movements stop for a period exceeding 20 seconds, a loud pulsing alarm accompanied by a red warning light on the monitor is activated. The audible alarm silences when the baby starts breathing again or when the parents or nurse disturbs the cot. | ![]() |

OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS
The LITTLE SENTRY junior is powered by a 9-Volt alkaline battery. Occasional replacement of this is the only maintenance required. Internationally standard alkaline batteries will suffice.
The sensor is placed under the mattress and has no contact with the skin.
A green light flashes regularly on the monitor, corresponding with the babies breathing. The LITTLE SENTRY junior gives parents the peace of mind while their baby sleeps.
A red lamp illuminates on the monitor at the same time as the audible alarm is sounded.
Parents should obtain professional advice on resuscitation before using the LITTLE SENTRY junior

Technical Operation Information
The Little Sentry junior reassurance monitor operates by means of
detecting a small electrical signal generated by applying
pressure to a piezoelectric crystal transducer. Since no actual
voltage is applied to the sensor, the possibility of electrical
shock is zero, making this an extremely safe device. The monitor
automatically locks into the breathing signal by slowly becoming
more sensitive, until it has detected a rhythmic breathing
pattern. An automatic gain control circuit (AGC) amplifies this
voltage until a breathing signal is obtained. Should large
pressures suddenly be placed on the sensor, such as movement, the
monitor will immediately become less sensitive and try to lock
onto these movements. Once the infant has settled down, the unit
will once again automatically lock into the more sensitive
breathing signals. Each breath is indicated by means of an
audible tick and a flash of an indicating LED. Should there be no
signal for 20 seconds or more, an audible and visual ( flashing
red LED ) alarm will sound. Should a breathing signal be detected
after this, the audible alarm will be muted. The visual alarm
will remain on until such time as the monitor is reset by
switching it off and then on again. Since the monitor
automatically adjusts to any sized signal, it can be used for
both infants and adults alike.
The condition of the battery is continually monitored while the
system is on. When the battery is low, the breath indicator
changes from a flashing green LED to a flashing red LED. This
colour change indicates a battery low status. This battery should
be changed within 12 hours of this state. It is important to note
that these monitors must only be operated on 9V Alkaline
batteries.
Placement of
sensor
For infants in a crib it is preferable to locate the sensor under
the mattress in a location beneath the shoulders. The sensor
should rest on a flat surface on the bottom of the crib. The
mattress should then rest firmly on the sensor.
ATTENTION
Bedding that is tucked under the mattress must NOT elevate the mattress in any way as this will diminish the contact with the sensor.
In the event of the bottom of the crib not providing an adequate flat surface, then a piece of firm cardboard or plastic may be used between the the sensor to provide a solid base surface and bridge any gaps.
It is advisable to experiment with sensor
placement to determine the location best suited to provide the
perfect signal. Once the pad is in position, the unit should be
switched on and checked that it is in fact detecting a reliable
breathing signal before the infant is left alone. The signal can
be checked by listening to the audible tick and watching the
breath indicator.
